The Carhartt Workshop is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 6pm. Walk-in pickups are welcome prior to 5pm.

Welcome to the Carhartt Workshop Tool Bench: a free resource for Detroit and surrounding communities.

Please take a few moments to read how the service works below.

How It Works:

1. Register and verify your profile on www.CarharttWorkshop.myturn.com. Provide all required information, including your email address, address, and phone number.

*Your address will be verified against your government-issued ID upon your first pickup, as well as your phone number. If you do not have a form of government-issued ID, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

2. Browse through our tool inventory until you find a tool suitable for your needs.

2a. If you have questions about your tool needs please call or email us for a consultation with a Tool Expert.

3. Click on the tool, and choose your preferred reservation date with the pop-up calendar. Determine your rental duration, and click ‘submit’.

3a. Be sure to check the availability of the item you're interested in by using the calendar at the bottom of the listing.

4. Your tools will be placed in your shopping cart. When you've found all the tools you need, click on your shopping cart (top right of the page), and click ‘submit’.

4. Your reservation will be reviewed by one of our Tool Experts, and will be confirmed based on availability and in the order the reservation was received. Once confirmed, you will receive an email about the pickup procedure and to notify you that your order is ready for pickup.

5. Come to the Workshop on your specified pickup day to pick up your order.

•If you need assistance registering an account, checking tool availability, or learning how to make a reservation, one of our associates will be happy to help you.

Pickup & Return Policy:

The default tool loan period is 7 days, although you may choose to define a shorter loan period.

Once your return date nears, you will receive reminders from Carhartt Workshop via phone call and email about your due date to ensure we can satisfy future reservations with the same tool.

Upon return, please notify our Tool Experts if a tool is in need of maintenance of any kind!

*If a member continually has issues with ghosting reservations, returning tools late or dirty, damaging tools, consistent problematic behavior or otherwise behavior that violates our Terms of Service and any other Carhartt Workshop policies, your account may be suspended or put on probation.

*Loans will be capped at no more than two of the same item at any one time (clamps, sawhorses) and no user can rent more than one item that typically isn't meant to be in pairs at any time (cannot borrow 2 circular saws, chainsaws, laser levels, etc). Reservations will be considered on a case by case basis.

New and Established Tool Bench User Policy:

New Users:

Upon creating an account for the first time, new users are subject to a $250 loan cap for their first 4 transactions, and these checkouts must occur over a minimum of a 30-day period. This loan cap includes batteries and chargers, so please plan your projects accordingly. If you're unsure if your order will exceed $250, please call us at 313-982-8900 for a consultation.

Because we do not take any credit or debit cards on file, this “new user status” serves as a way to build rapport with our users, and to ensure users are bringing tools back in on time, and in good condition.

In order to proceed beyond “new user status”, new users must complete 4 consecutive checkouts with timely returns of tools and they should be brought back cleaned and in reasonably good condition.

All new users will be subject to this initial loan cap and new user policy - no exceptions.

Established users:

Users who have completed the initial new user program are then considered “established users” of the Carhartt Workshop Tool Bench. The loan cap for “established users” is then set at $1,500 for any one checkout.

“Established users” maintain this user status by routinely returning tools on time and in good, clean condition. Those who consistently return tools late and / or damage tools may be reverted back to “new user status” and / or may temporarily or permanently lose access to the services provided at the Carhartt Workshop.
