The Carhartt Workshop is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 6pm. Walk-ins are always welcome!

Welcome to the Carhartt Workshop Tool Bench: a free resource for Detroit and surrounding communities.

Here you can browse through our inventory and reserve tools.

How It Works:

1. Register and verify your profile on www.CarharttWorkshop.myturn.com. Provide all required information, including your email address, address, phone number and birthday.

*Your address will be verified against your government-issued ID upon your first pickup, as well as your phone number. If you do not have a form of government-issued ID, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

2. Browse through our tool inventory until you find a tool suitable for your needs. If you don't find what you're looking for, or have questions about your tool needs, please call or email us for a consultation.

3. Click on the tool, and choose your preferred reservation date with the pop-up calendar. Determine your rental duration, and click ‘submit’.

4. Your tools will be placed in your shopping cart. When you've found all the tools you need, click on your shopping cart (top right of the page), and click ‘submit’.

4. Your reservation will be reviewed by our Tool Expert, and will be confirmed based on availability and in the order the reservation was received. Once confirmed, you will receive an email about the pickup procedure.

5. Come to the Workshop on your specified pickup day (2nd Floor) and come upstairs to pick up your order.

5a. First-time users of the Tool Bench are required to come into the Carhartt Workshop to pick up their order, and to verify their ID and phone number.

•If you need assistance registering an account or making a reservation, come to Carhartt Workshop and one of our associates will be happy to help.

•You must verify your email address and accept our Terms & Conditions in order to rent a tool.

•For the safety and protection of everyone, associates cannot help load tools into your vehicle, so please plan accordingly.

•Carhartt Workshop's user agreement states that tools and reservations must be picked up by the user who made the reservation. Reservations will not be released to a third party, regardless of relationship to the user.

•Reservations not picked up after 48 hours will be returned into our inventory.

Loan, Return and Extension Policy:

The default tool loan period is 7 days, although you may choose to define a shorter loan period. If you decide you'd like to keep your tool longer than 7 days, you have the ability to extend your tool lease for up to an additional 7 days from the original due date if another reservation is not pending for that tool. You may be able to renew your entire order, a part of your order, or you may not be able to renew your reservation at all - it all depends on availability and pending reservations.

If you'd like to renew your order, you are able to do so on day 5 through 7 day of your reservation, and all renewals will be handled by a Carhartt Workshop associate - you can call or email us to inquire about a renewal. Please renew your order before your tool is due to ensure seamless service for other users. You can only renew your order once, and after that you must wait one week to check out the same tool or tools. You cannot renew orders that are currently overdue. Renewals are available for established users only.

Once your return date nears, you will receive reminders from Carhartt Workshop about your due date to ensure we can satisfy future reservations with the same tool.

*Please note that you cannot return or pickup tools at the Carhartt Retail store!

If a member continually has issues with ghosting reservations, returning tools on time, or damaging tools, your account may be put on probation until your return history is established to be on time and in good standing.

Loans will be capped at no more than two of the same item at any one time (clamps, sawhorses) and no user can rent more than one item that typically isn't meant to be in pairs at any time (cannot borrow 2 circular saws, chainsaws, laser levels, etc). Reservations will be considered on a case by case basis.

•Carhartt Workshop reserves the right to review and accept or deny loans on an individual basis for any reason at any time.

•The Carhartt Workshop Tool Bench service is for personal work only, and should not be used for commercial or contract work in any shape or form.

•Please note: In order to keep our inventory in properly working order, if you lose or damage a tool beyond reasonable usage situations, you may be asked to pay for replacement parts, or replace the tool itself. Failure to do so may result in a probation or ban from the service.

•The Carhartt Workshop does not provide users with consumable items with the exception of one blade for tools requiring blades.

New and Established Tool Bench Users:

New Users:

New users of the Carhartt Workshop Tool Bench will have their address and phone numbers verified by an associate at the Carhartt Workshop upon their first checkout. New users must come into the Carhartt Workshop for their first pickup in order to verify these pieces of information.

New users are subject to a $250 loan cap for their first 4 checkouts, and these checkouts must occur over a minimum of a 30-day period. This loan cap includes batteries and chargers, so please plan your projects accordingly.

Because we do not take any credit or debit cards on file, this “new user status” serves as a way to build rapport with our users, and to ensure users are bringing tools back in on time, and in good condition.

In order to proceed beyond “new user status”, new users must complete 4 consecutive checkouts with timely returns of tools and they should be brought back cleaned and in reasonably good condition. This will be handled on a case-by-case basis. All new users will be subject to this initial loan cap - no exceptions.

Established users:

Users who have completed the initial  new user program are then considered “established users” of the Carhartt Workshop Tool Bench. The loan cap for “established users” is then set at $1,500 for any one checkout.

“Established users” who routinely return tools late and / or routinely damage tools may be reverted back to “new user status” and may temporarily or permanently lose access to the services provided at the Carhartt Workshop Tool Bench.
